Thanked: 96First time finding something at a B&M.
So I was out Xmas shopping and I popped into an antique shop. Small one, right by the door was a ziplock baggie with two razors in it marked as a set for $35.
The first: A Clauss with a black plastic handle. 6/8 that is new except for some very minor rust on the blade and maybe 2 or 3 bad honeups giving it a slight frown (still the full 6/8, very minor frown I've already removed).
Other than condition, the clincher on buying this was that it has the original box in the best condition I've ever seen a razor box in. Also, the steel on the tang is shiny and appears as though it's the original surface. Makes me suspect this is much younger than most of my razors.
The second: Unknown. Pretty significant rust. 5/8 worn down near 4/8. Scales that feel like plastic, off-white, but cracks and decay near the pins that looks like it must be some kind of bone. I'd put up pics but no camera until after break. There's some writing on the blade that looks like water stain (very old marker perhaps). Definitely handwritten, not original "?(covered in rust) # = tsgs", "??sgz" Stamped on the tang "Americus" and on the reverse tang, a bear on it's hind legs with a walking stick. The bear seems pretty unique as a logo, so if anyone has any info on it, I'd appreciate it.
Clauss is getting honed up to shave with, the Americus will have to wait until I return home and can get the rust cleaned off.
Edit: Google results suggest the bear is the logo of T. Hessen Bruch Co.Last edited by IanS; 12-23-2009 at 06:01 AM.
