Fillies Gone Wild
Holy crap, if you want to see some eye-popping prices, check out these two auction results -- 160390934948 and 160390941707. A Filly #13 Medalio Taurino for $430!! A Filly #14 EPBD for $506!!!! My god, that is a lot for one razor, even a nice Filly.
Now, I should say that this is an excellent seller -- tanowa from Brazil, and I've also bought from him in the past. His razors are absolutely new, never honed, original packaging, all of that. Lately, A normal #13 usually goes for $200 to $240 and a #14 goes for $300 to $350.
So what the heck is up with these two auctions. I mean, I could even understand one of them being out of whack, but both of them? Any insight would be appreciated.

Tanowa, my apologies!! I didn't realize it, since just about everyone else in the SR world is a guy, but now that I've found a girl with a huge collection of awesome razors, I have to ask -- will you marry me?!

I don't know, but there's something weird about these two razors both going through the roof at the same time, and I was hoping that someone here had better insight into this.
If you look at the bidding, it's pretty clear that several of the same people were bidding on both razors, and both of them went crazy just today.
Obviously, this is no problem for Tanowa, who is a very reputable seller, and it makes my Filly purchases (at much lower prices) look somewhat smart. But still, wow, that is a LOT of coin for those razors, as nice as they are.
(Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't Tanowa offered one #13 and one #14 just about every single week now for the past two months? Which would mean that there's more coming next week, or could these be the last two NOS Fillies she has? If so, I'd expect her to say so in the auction listing to drive the price up, but no mention of that at all!)

Thats exactly what puts me off Filli's. I'd love to get one, but I'm just not prepared to spend that sort of money on one. Thats well up into custom razor territory there, and you can get Livi regrinds for less than that.
The problem is that Filli's have been getting good write ups recently, so the prices have just rocketed.
The prices will come back down again once the next big thing is uncovered. Someone just has to start a good review so I can afford a Filli....! Hehe!

Hey guys, did you hear that Zeepk razors give an unparallelled shave? Even better than the fabled Chr*nik? ;-)

I am glad I have my unfair share of Fillies (7 in all, some NOS). They are great shavers: easy to sharpen, keeping an edge and smooth on the face) however many more blades have such qualities. IME Filly steel resembles the Swedish steel of any vintage Swedish brand, e.g. Heljestrand en E.A.B.

Thanked: 293What makes a Livi regrind better than a Fili? It's just somebody else's blanks or wedges, fixed up by Livi. I'll take a Filly there.
The Mastro custom forgings go up over $600 bucks and we haven't seen any Filly's do that yet
EDIT: I'm sure somebody will be along to crucify me for this post soon.Last edited by Oglethorpe; 01-12-2010 at 02:53 PM.
