$8000 shaving mug!?
Just stumbled across this auction -- 230399703780 -- for an occupational shaving mug owned by William Kuehne, who apparently was a professional baseball player from the 1890s. Anyway, the mug is gorgeous and shows guys playing baseball on a beautiful green field. Very, very nice mug. Opening bid . . . $7,900!
Anyway, enjoy.

I've got one I'll sell you for half of that.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

If I was looking for an $8,000 mug , I wouldn't be looking on ebay . Well , now that I think about it , maybe I would . But I would be looking to get it for $8 .
Greetings , from Dundalk , Maryland . The place where normal people , fear to go .

Yea, +1 to all comments above.
I don't tend to focus on the mugs so much, although they seem to come up all the time when you go to eBay and start looking through the shaving gear.
Let's say the "going rate" for a decent mug is $10 -$15. So that means you see mugs that are selling for 3 or 5 or even 10 times that amount. And at those multiples, I will look at the mug and say, "well, that is definitely nicer than the average one, but for that money, I'd rather have [another razor, tub of shave cream, hone, etc.]"
So what the hell could you possibly be thinking when you ask for or bid EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLARS for shaving mug?!?!? I mean, at that price, I thought someone was going to say, "Oh, William Kuehne, he's the grandfather of baseball, inventor of the polio vaccine, and later saved the entire country from Communism right before being nominated to the Supreme Court." Is William Kuehne famous for baseball or anything else? I don't know. But he's certainly going to be known from now on as the man with the world's most expensive shave mug.
