    there is wear on the strap from many sharpenings

    Well, I'm no expert, but... looks like a little more than "use" to me.

    But, if someone really wanted it, I suppose you could trim the whole strop in and re-adjust the clasp to the edge of the cut. I have a strop thats 1 1/2 inches wide, and I can strop on it just fine.

    But that's a lot of effort to put into the whole thing. If you really need something to do...
