The shape of the razor is very similiar to those that were made in Palermo in the 17th Century. Prior to Sheffiled becoming the cutlery capital of the world in the 18th Century, Palermo was known for the quality of it's merchandise, and their razors, at the time, were reputed to be the best in the world; although I have no idea how their forging technology compares to what was to come after.

I was tempted to bid on it but didn't. The scales were, I'm convinced, genuine tortoiseshell and beautiful. For those alone I was tempted. But the shape of the blade .... could you imagine trying to shave with such a thing ?
