Thanked: 7Does this razor look "shave ready" to you?
I know that you cannot truly evaluate shave-readiness simply by looking at photographs, but I'm curious if anyone out there thinks that the following eBay razor even MIGHT be shave ready:
Imperial Razor Germany 5/8 shave ready straight razor - eBay (item 130366200897 end time Feb-17-10 13:00:00 PST)
THe listing title is:
Imperial Razor Germany 5/8 shave ready straight razor
Another one brought to you by "mysterydoll". I dont know about you, but I wouldn't put that butter knife to my face. Does anyone out there think I'm off-base here?

Looks like a slight frown .... or the beginning of one on that blade. The patina on the edge suggests that it hasn't been honed lately. Perhaps the mysterydoll is picking up on the success of other ebay razor vendors who list their razors with 'shave ready' in the title ? I tend to agree with your assessment.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Well that blade does look a bit off, but I have purchased one razor from mysterydoll in the past (Beau Brummel #35) and was happy with the transaction.
I can only vouch for them being a good seller, though, and not on their honing skills. I don't remember if my Brummel was listed as shave-ready and unfortunately I cannot see the details of the listing anymore.

Thanked: 39I doubt very much if that razor is "shave ready". There is no shine on that edge at all.

It might be shave ready... It is likely that
the picture was taken prior to honing.
If you follow the URL in the description, folks
associated with the vendor do visit here.
Could be a bargain.

Too much rust on the bevel, frowning edge, unshiny bevel. It'll cut butter.

Thanked: 7I actually bought the razor for $20. I really hate like hell to patronize someone I consider a scammer even once, but I want to find out for myself if it's true. If I receive what I expect to receive, I plan to complain to eBay. I do think that the razor is pretty and will make a good restore candidate and can likely be made shave ready with a PROPER honing. I am tooling up to sell actual shave ready razors that I have actually shave tested on myself, which kind of leads to a curious question: for me to sell a razor as shave ready, I feel that you actually have to SHAVE with it to see if it requires further work; now unless you are a multi-headed Hydra, how could you mass-market shave ready razors? It makes you wonder.
