Default Blade looks different? - Vintage WADE & BUTCHER Sheffield

    Hey everyone!
I was looking on eBay.com for razors, and came across this Wade & Butcher razor. Except looking at the blade, it doesnt look like it has that hollow grind and the blade looks very thick? Is this a different sort of grind? Or has this blade been altered?

    Its eBay Item Number 400103586154

    Any info would be appreciated

    Thanks
    Marco

You are correct, this blade does not have a hollow grind, it is close to a wedge it looks like...or "near wedge" as most people like to say.

One thing is for certain....its not a very nice example of a W&B. The pitting all over the blade is horrendous, and deep, and could affect the shaving edge...it might have to be honed for a while before you found good steel...although a wedge that size you are bound to hit some good steel sooner or later

imo, for the price you'll do better in SRP classifieds.

Looks like a wedge to me. The pitting looks to be deep enough that a re grind may be needed.

    Thanks guys

So it wouldn't be worth trying to restore unless you had plenty of experience and a grinder?

some experience, yes. It could take a skilled honer to fix up the edge. As for the pitting, it would be personal preference if you spent the time to remove it all... I vote no on this one

It has heavy pitting which looks to have been heavily buffed. No way of telling if it will take a good edge from the photos.

    Default honing

Let me hone it! I could turn that into a frowning mess with a bunch of screwed -up hone wear in no time.
Don't get hung up on hanging hairs.
