Bad etch?
Is is rare to find a razor with missing letters from the etching?
RARE WADE & BUTCHER STRAIGHT RAZOR MISSING THE R & CASE - eBay (item 290394847503 end time Feb-22-10 12:49:53 PST)
Does that make it more collectible, like a double stamped coin?

Thanked: 2591Considering the condition, I'd say that is way overpriced, missing R or not.
This razor is the victim of the W&B hype, I am not sure if its more than 7/8, the etch might even go away after pitting is taken out.Stefan

Yeah, I saw that too - I think the guy's just insane / hoping to con someone. It would have to be made of solid gold to be worht that much. And then it wouldnt hold an edge for sh**. Or have been owned by King George. Or rather, King George's barber. He probably didnt shave himself. And maybe even then it still wouldnt be worth that much, in that condition.

I've seen lots of razors where the stamps or etches are worn or faint and sometimes letters get lost to wear, but this one looks like it's just MISSING the R.Like a factory mistake. That's what seems odd about it to me.
As far as the price, some guys just shoot for the moon and hope.I know I won't be the sucker to rise to that bait.

Even if I did have the funds to pay that price, there is no way I would have. It was the oddity of a factory mistake that had me curious. Thanks guys.

Looks to me like it's missing the R from the factory too. Also, that Bow doesn't seem to have the stylized toe that most (all that I've seen) have.

Actually, I've seen this razor quite a few times, as it's been for sale at this price for a LONG time, and I actually feel a little bad for the dude selling it.
I know this is making lots of assumptions, but haven't you ever had the experience of thinking that something you own is so completely unique and valuable that the price for it must be astronomical, only to find out later that you are literally the only person on the planet who is in any way impressed with it? Like maybe a concert t-shirt that you bought years and years ago and never wore because you thought that you probably have the only "mint," unwashed example of this shirt in existence. Well, maybe you DO have the only "mint" example of that shirt in existence, maybe yours is even the nicest one ever to come out of the factory, but the stupid thing is still only worth $5. Oh, and by the way, no one even cares about your "special" shirt, either.
Anyway, I think this "missing R" guy is a little like this -- he LOVES that the razor has a missing R, but I don't think anyone in the world shares that with him, which just seems a little lonely! And, by the way, if he's a member here, then I would say to him: please let me and everyone know what we're missing here!! The missing R doesn't seem like a big deal to us, but maybe you can offer some other information to bring us up to your level of insight. We've all been in that position at one time or another, right?!
