Thanked: 7Another one: Think it's shave ready?
I found another razor on the bay and I'm curious, because I think it is an important topic - does the following razor LOOK shave ready to you?:
VINTAGE Straight Razor Genco, Geneva 11/16 Shave Ready! - eBay (item 120531651844 end time Feb-22-10 17:51:35 PST)
I'm interested in your answers. I'm also interested in any insight anyone could provide on how to "demonstrate" shave-readiness (or the lack thereof) in pictures).

Thanked: 1903- There is an eBay section in this forum. Your questions should go there, not in the razor section.
- I would not buy this razor for several reasons.
- "Resist the urge to buy from an auction site. For starters, you will not be able to tell whether a razor is the condition described by the seller. Defects can be slight but fatal. Even if the razor is in excellent condition, chances are you will pay considerably more than the current going rate. Good razors on eBay are rare, and the experienced users will spot, and snipe, them very quickly."
- The straight razor - Straight Razor Place Wiki has a section on buying razors, including questions to ask the seller.
- The Shave Ready Razor - Straight Razor Place Wiki and Sharpness tests explained - Straight Razor Place Wiki explain everything else you may want to know.

Thanked: 13245He at least posted his honing process... So your chances just went a little higher....
But other than that, there is no "real" way I know of...

Thanked: 735The heel of that razor looks mighty funky. I certainly wouldn't buy it. And if left in that condition, and still listed as shave ready, I'd question the honer's abilities/amount of care invested in that razor.
Looks like a factory fressh Gold Dollar heel!

Thanked: 1903The entire blade looks interesting. But... the seller used more hones than anyone else! And pastes! And strops! I bet he has a honester certificate from the world's leading leg shaving forum, too.
In short, another fine example why buying from eBay is almost always a bad idea, especially for a beginner.
