I was going to buy a stone from this person. Send
him some messages and he responded quickly.

I discussed this seller on this forum and somebody
told me that he buys his stones from 330 mate. Checked
    330 mate's buyer's reviews and yes 1194markr indeed
had bought a lot of stones from 330 mate.

After I mentioned him on this forum, he did not reply
to my last message. Perhaps he checks this site too.

I end up buying a karasu stone from 330 mate which I
am quite happy with. It's a nice hard stone that is finer
than me 8 k Naniwa SS. Not sure how fine it is though.

Would looking with a loop give an answer to this? How many times should it magnify to be able to really see
    the scratch pattern?

    Regards,

Your best bet would be to check the size with SEM or some specialized microscope that has a scaling tool that can tell you the size of the grit.

[QUOTE=JeffE;551486]I've seen a number of stones being sold by this guy, and you're right, his numbering system and the odd use of some expressions reminded me a lot of 330mate, but then you see that he's located in Alburquerque, New Mexico. Is he 330mate's US distributor?!

    /QUOTE]

    Man, this cracks me up.
