I wish this one guy had done a test to tell us where this stone lie in a progression.
    Hope it sells well Jim.

Jim, nice rock!! What's the back of the stone look like? Good "skin"? And what are all of those other stones next to it in the photo?! C'mon, man, you have to show the whole famous Jim R collection now!

Thanks for the comments, gents. I'll post pics of the back here tomorrow (it's past my bedtime...), if you like, and Jeff--that's a nice idea...the whole spread, eh?

There is only one place in the progression for a finishing stone...and those stamps were just too pretty for me to mess up.

yep that's true, too bad though I'd be interested to see how it compared to your Nakayama (IIRC you have one?)

Jeff, I just realized the picture you mean--those other stones were at the shop I got it at, not mine. Well, one of them is mine. The other was a big Oohira that was more than $1000...*sigh*

Fair enough...I have another that's pretty much identical to this one, though this one is a touch grayer. I'll test it...maybe...if I can stand to take the stamps off.

About time Mr Sum Gai stopped his hoarding and started selling all those razors and rocks. He must be loaded now that he's toured every antique shop in the wurld.

If you can work some slurry on an area with no stamps, honing over the stamps will not erase them for a while, unfortunately the label is in the way..
