Thanked: 7Near Mint Razor?
Is there anyone here to thinks the following razor should be considered "near mint" as it says in the auction title?
STRAIGHT RAZOR H.BOKER near mint--no#101_needs stroped - eBay (item 220566836884 end time Mar-12-10 08:01:53 PST)
I am lost on how a blade with corrosion is NM.

There is only "Mint" - which is the equivalent of NOS, but perhaps lacking packaging, has been *LIGHTLY* used once, etc. No adjectives should be tagged on to "mint"!
That razor is in "Fair" condition at best.

the ad clearly states the razor only "needs stroped". And then it will be in near mint condition
Maybe stroped is some kind of magical original-restoration product?Find me on SRP's official chat in ##srp on Freenode. Link is at top of SRP's homepage

Obviously you guys werent paying attention and did not notice the after dinner mint in the pics, making the razor "near mint".
It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled. Twain

Thanked: 7If you ARE going to call a razor "near mint", you should do a much better job of photo-shopping your pictures. There are some really great shots of the corrosion and honewear near the spine...and that picture of the dirty, rusty edge with hair on it is just PRICELESS. If that's near mint, I got a whole box of them that look like that at home. At $150 a pop that....well....a lot of damn money for putting my daughter through school.

Thanked: 7Same Guy, Another Razor
Here's another "Near Mint" razor from the same guy:
STRAIGHT RAZOR wade & butcher BIG & FAT HUGE ETCHED - eBay (item 220568465987 end time Mar-15-10 08:41:00 PDT)
Actually a very, very nice razor, but it has been power-cleaned and he has a great shot of two long black lines of corrosion across the face. Maybe he doesn't know what "mint" is? That razor is definitely one that I would buy, but not from that guy and not for that money.

It ain't worth much but... FWIW, I've been watching this guy's auctions for a long time. If you read further you'll find that he says he has been collecting razors for 30 years and I don't doubt it. In one of his descriptions he described himself as an 'old man'. That made me like him 'cause I'm an old man. I've never bought anything from him nor corresponded with him. I too collected straight razors when I didn't shave with them and at that time what I considered in 'great condition' or near mint was way different from how I judge them as a shaver. So it is a different barometer that he is using..... IMHO.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

this one is "new"
for the "discriminating buyer" who bought the Boker...(you brought her, you boker), here's a "new Crown and Sword", only $170. But WTF, it's only $13.00 to ship it.
