Thread: Keen Kutter Opinions

I'm curious what the experienced eyes here think about this specimen? PM please, if you'd rather not say in this thread.

To me it looks like the blade needs cleaning, on the back side near the edge looks like there is some pitting but the pic does not show very well the edge (I hate when people do those angled photos that show little detail).
As far as I know that brand is sought after, but I have never tried one to tell you if it shaves well or not.
I am not sure if the asking starting price is fair, because this blade might need some restoration before its usable.
My advise, go for something in the classifieds, you can find great razors for not too much more than what you would pay for this one.

Is it a deal? no

Will it sell for that price? mmmmmaybe.

Maybe not. It looks like some work would be needed to make it shave ready, so I would skip it at that price.


Just favorite it, and if it doesnt sell, they will relist it at a more reasonable price and you can try it then.

My advice: Try to completely strip the "Keen Kutter" name and affiliation from your mind when viewing that razor. View the razor based on the merits of the razor alone and in doing so, compare it to any other razor that has the same features, look, condition. Then ask yourself what you think it's worth.

Keen Kutter is a collectible NAME. That means if history repeats, the bidders will include some people that collect anything Keen Kutter such as wrenches, hammers, apple peelers, screwdrivers, anything. Those collectors place importance on Keen Kutter first and razor, much much less. But......they seem to have money to burn if they want something!

I certainly don't think it's "minty". I think it's a decent square point translucent celluloid scaled vintage razor. I'm not saying I think it's crap. For a Keen Kutter brand name collector, the name essentially means everything. For me, it means little to nothing.

Thank you all for the feedback. I didn't realize Keen Kutter was such a collectible name, but it sounded cool to me. I figured it would need a trip to one of the restorers who advertise in the classifieds here, and it might be less expensive in the long run to acquire one of the classics they offer there, perhaps even with better performance. Chris, that really put the perspective clearly in focus. Thanks again, all!
