Big, big Escher (and a little buddy too)
I just wanted to say congrats to whoever purchased this stone, as it looks like a nice one. I've watched these auctions for at least a little while, and I've never seen a 10x2 stone. This one also came with a "rubbing stone" that would make a pretty large razor hone itself, so maybe the buyer is going to keep the large stone and sell the smaller one to defray the cost. Anyway, I wish I could have kept up with the bidding, but $510 is way over my budget these days!!
Anyway, the auction is 260581027314. And here's the photo:

I had my snipe set and my hand on the mouse but it went beyond where I was intending to go so I didn't bother clicking it. Nice stone and I hope one of us got it.

This is going to sound like a dumb question, but would anyone here ever consider cutting a stone that big in half? And I'm not saying I would do it, but a 10x2 stone is almost big enough to cut into two pretty nice 5x2 stones. Each one would get one half of the label too, which would look kind of silly, but if you think about it that way, it actually kind of makes the price more bearable.
Well, who cares, because I'm not in the market for a $500 Escher anyway, but damn, it's still a really nice looking stone. Like Jimmy, I hope someone here bought it so at least we can hear how the purchase worked out later.

I don't think anyone would have the guts to cut such a labeled stone in half. $250 for a 5" Escher would be too rich for my blood. Different strokes though.

This has double the surface of the standard 7"x1.5" so selling for double the money seems a pretty good deal considering that these are much much rarer.
But, of course, not everybody wants a big escher that much. I've considered selling mine few times, but each of them I've realized I prefer the stone to the money.

Very very nice Escher. I wish I was the one that had enough dough to spend that much on a hone!

Thanked: 480I was on that stone like a fly on....well, you know....
But after doing all my taxes, and paying off my doctor bills for treating my RAD, I discovered I didnt have anything left to shop with!
Oh well, there will always be others.... right?
(humor me here and say yes!)

Like many of us, I was watching it too. For my honing style, it is too narrow, although the length is great. Great for a smiling blade or an uneven wedge, though! Still, quite a rarity.
