    yeah,
the other day there was a similar one with still left yellow coti on top of the blue, that went for ~100. It had same geometry as this one and a box, can't remember the dimensions but it was not very big

She sold this very same hone a month or so ago for over $100 IIRC. Apparently the buyer sent it back. She sold a 10" coticule a few months ago for over $500. She has sold a few coticules and all with the same description,"This was my fathers finest combination hone for use in his barbershop. He had this one wrapped in a barber towel in his sanitizer cabinet with a note that this was not to be used by anyone but Gene as it was a natural Belgian and very expensive to replace!" As an old tattoo artist friend used to say, if you can't dazzle them with brilliance baffle them with B/S.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I love that. With so many "grandfathers razors" and fathers coticles on ebay I almost feel there are salt tears pouring from my medicine cabinet...

I thought this factoid was interesting though--

Only 3 to 4 natural combo stones are quarried in any given year.

So, Ardennes must have been saving up their combos for quite a while. I'd guess they're selling rocks that they quarried sometime in the 1500s right now...

What's the source for the factoid? Just curious. Also, when you say that there's only three or four natural combo stones quarried per year, does that mean three or four stones that are the size of a razor hone, or three or four big suckers that then get cut up into many more smaller hones?

About this seller, I've seen him selling some very nice stuff for ridiculous prices and also some junk for equally ridiculous prices. I think this stone is definitely in the latter category.

My source is ebay seller tytina (965). You'd have to get further clarification from her, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was option A, that being the one that makes them more valuable and all...

This gives me a great idea, think I will paint a brick yellow and see if I can sell it for a few hundred quid.

That does seem like an unrealistically high price, especially bearing in mind that you can pick up new coti combos for a lot less than that. I've seen vendors selling them for $100 - $150.
