    Default Fily, Ducal?

I recently won a Fily doble 12 on the bay, (yea yea, i know, I cant stop myself)

It was advertised as NOS. but when I recieved it, it had numerous scratches on the handle, and the spine had uneven hone wear on it that says to me this razor was more than a little used.

The seller has offered to let me return the razor for either another Fily 12, or a Ducal like the one he has up for auction now, or just refund my money.

What do you guys think? Is the Ducal as good as the Dobl Temp? Anybody have any experience with this seller? Will I just be trading a devil for a devil?
    Advice would be appreciated.

Personal preference - I'd want the Filly 12.

I'd take the DT 12 too - or a palmera. He has some of those somtimes as well, IIRC.

I'm surprised, as I see lots of auctions by Mariona and thought that he (or she) had a decent reputation among buyers. Sorry to hear that you got a bad blade from him, and at least he's doing the right thing by offering to replace it.

Personally, I like the shape and look of the Ducal and Palmyra, but I suppose if you are determined to have a Filly, then only the Filly will do. I have a Filly #13 that I like, but I cannot fathom the price that people are paying for these razors now, at least when compared to other blades on the market for comparable prices. But I suppose that view puts me in the minority here.

Just my humble opinion, but I would swap the DT 12 for the Ducal 7/8 in a heartbeat! I have one and it is fantastic! It is closer to 15/16 and only needed fine honing out of the box...great shaver. I like bigger blades so that is certainly a factor. Antonio (Mariona08) is a great seller but it helps if you speak Spanish as I do not believe he speaks much English. The Ducal I recieved from him was in used condition but the scales had some minor issues (not a problem to me as I don't shave with the scales) but otherwise very sweet. I own a Fily DT 14 and I like the Ducal better (especially considering the dollar differance!). Best of luck to you whatever way you decide.

I am curious, was the Ducal you purchased advertised as new? Or was it advertised as good used?

It was listed as Nos, without prior use. It do not believe it had been used but the scales had some minor defects. Others may view differantly but I was not concerned about this as I was pleased to get a huge "Fily" blade for around $175 and the scales are actually nicer than the factory Filarmonica garbage scales. Mine is a fantastic shaver...prefer to my 7/8 TI and DT 14. I hope this thread doesn't drive the price up...he seems to have a stockpile.
