Default Marples & Co : Interesting Buy

A 5/8” Sheffield Straight Razor by Marples & Co. NR - eBay (item 320517712150 end time Apr-22-10 10:05:00 PDT)

A bit of background on this one. My last name is Marple. According to my Dad, our last name comes from a town named Marple near Sheffield. I had to pick this one up just for the name.

I'm not sure that it really matters. Probably made with Sheffield steel and manufactured in Marple. I've only seen the beehive with D. Peres razors. If I saw a razor with my name on it I'd buy it too. Nice score.

Marple is the maker's name, not the town there the razor was made.

I think my Dad was talking in generalities with me. He has traveled a fair amount in the UK and I have not, so I think he was just throwing out the "closest" city given my limited knowledge.

    Thanks for the site!

On a side note, I am headed to Glasgow in June for work. Always a good opportunity to see more of the UK!

I live in Cheshire, Manchester which is not far from Marple. While Marple is not in the same county as Sheffield, it is within about 30 miles (50km) which is not exactly far.

Also, we currently live in Texas. Anything under 150 miles is considered "close"
