Doesn't make sense to me, to hone a razor to shave ready without removing the red rust, and that blade is very rusty. Can't tell much about the bevel from the pictures, since it is only partly visible. I would avoid it unless you are into restoration.

Ha! Classic sign of someone who knows nothing about razors (and is, ergo, scamming you to claim this is shave ready) : "The blade is 3" long"

Yes, but it did pass the "hair splitting test".

lol and the shipping charges are crazy. $23 US to Canada where I've payed very little more than $6 many other times from the US. They must have a $15 handling fee.

He does give the height, as well, so points given, there. As for the width, I've actually started looking for that info ever since I got a blade that was only 2" long. To look at the picture, it was a nice big 6/8+. When I got it, it was a little trimming razor. Fortunatley, I didn't pay much for that one, but I learned from it.

Since posts are here for posterity as well as present, I'll throw out a plea to all new members past and present that may place some level of value on "shave ready" claims on Ebay:

Don't do it. Bid on a razor for the razor and the value you'd place on the razor. IF........a razor you win that claims to be shave ready IS shave ready, consider such a state to be a bonus.

Anyone who does have a legitimate gripe about buying a "shave ready" razor that is not would IMO have to line up next to the MYRIAD of other false claims, inaccuracies, etc that plague Ebay.

Granted, I don't trust it, but:

Maybe he took the photos before honing it.

In photo 2, the level of "polish" on the edge is very different from the spine. Maybe it was taped.

Surely a good way round this whole "shave ready" thing would be to email the sellers of suspect razors, asking for a video of them shaving with the razor and telling them you wont bid until you've seen that video or the shave ready claim is removed?

If we all banded together, we could stop this sort of thing..!

But yes, I agree, this razor is not one you should be looking at unless you are into hard core restoration. And you also dont know how deep the pitting is under all the crud, so you may find that the blade is unusable or at least very scarred once you've cleaned it up.

Are you current on your Tetanus shot? I think that will determine the "shave readiness" of the blade.
