Nevermind, there's spots on the spine, where honing should have polished them away. Most likely it is not shave ready.
While it is good to educate newbies of ebay, I don't think that deserves such a hiding. There are much worse ads, blades and price out there.
I take my ebay with a packet of salt and that does look a bit rough and in need of a resto.
Apparently, the sellers have noticed that shavereadiness helps the blade sell. Pretty much only thing we can do is to learn newbies to read the ads and pictures critically.Last edited by ursus; 04-27-2010 at 04:48 PM.

He does give the height, as well, so points given, there. As for the width, I've actually started looking for that info ever since I got a blade that was only 2" long. To look at the picture, it was a nice big 6/8+. When I got it, it was a little trimming razor. Fortunatley, I didn't pay much for that one, but I learned from it.

Since posts are here for posterity as well as present, I'll throw out a plea to all new members past and present that may place some level of value on "shave ready" claims on Ebay:
Don't do it. Bid on a razor for the razor and the value you'd place on the razor. IF........a razor you win that claims to be shave ready IS shave ready, consider such a state to be a bonus.
Anyone who does have a legitimate gripe about buying a "shave ready" razor that is not would IMO have to line up next to the MYRIAD of other false claims, inaccuracies, etc that plague Ebay.

Granted, I don't trust it, but:
Maybe he took the photos before honing it.
In photo 2, the level of "polish" on the edge is very different from the spine. Maybe it was taped.

How sad. There were no bids. I thought one of you would have jumped in to take one for the team.

I will let you know what he considers shave ready.. I recently purchased a Boker good as gold razor from that seller. He said that he pyramid hones them then strops them on basal with diamond paste and then test shaves before putting them on ebay. I will be shaving with the Boker tomorrow and will let you all know how it goes. The blade has patina on it but no rust.

It sure does. Look at the toe, there is no bevel.
We know what a blade like that would look like before it was cleaned up. The bevel would have needed some work. I just don't see what should look like a shiny new bevel set.
But, not to trash Troggies purchase. The real test will be the shave test. We wait patiently Troggie.
And like holli4pirating suggests. Perhaps it was honed after the pictures.
