The URL had some strangeness in it, here it is fixed up:

5 BLADE INTERCHANGABLE STRAIGHT RAZOR SET STROPPING BOX - eBay (item 270571083473 end time May-05-10 11:11:46 PDT)

It sure is cool looking, what a good idea, looks like a loom strop almost, but with secret compartments. All containers were cooler in the old days IMO.

Yup, I've seen sets like this before.. the idea is to have one handle, and five (or two, three, seven or whatever) blades that switch into the handle like a full 5 or 7-day set.

I know some guys that like greaves a lot too, I didn't look too much at the pics, but I'd bet that they are being watched.

I've seen other sheffield makers with sets like this, and I think one solingen set that was similar.

does anyone know if there was a particular idea behind the design?

we decided it seemed the sort of thing that was probably very much designed for a purpose?

be it to keep down cost by only haveing one set of scales and being kept in a strop?
or if maybe it was to save space? (such as a 7 day travel set)
or if it just happens to be a beautifull and novel piece with no further concept behind it?

would love some more infomation on the history of it..

    gorgeous peice either way

It's given me the idea that you could make an excellent travel setup out of it. Rather than have the paddle strop lids swing open on hinges I would have the box built to hold the razors in the center, in a compartment with its own lid, and then have the outer parts with the leather on them slide on and off through mitres. So you could decide which strop you need (regular on one side, pasted on the other), slide out the strop part, open the inner compartment and grab your razor), then flip the leather side up on the strop part and slide it back in.

That would let you travel with the leather pieces facing inward, protected from damage.
