This eBay policy is really dumb but I understand its reasoning.

The problem is that they are enforcing it unnecessarily and in many cases not even correctly. There is a lot of legal ivory that is bought and sold every day in the world. Lots of things have ivory in them, and it is perfectly legal to buy and sell things that contain ivory as long as they don't cross international borders as far as I know.

I tried to sell a custom pool cue on the Bay and it contains ivory inlays. They canceled my auction and still made me pay the listing fees. I can understand them enforcing this policy if I were selling raw blocks of ivory without documentation of where it came from. And what's really dumb is that I can pull up several cues every day of the week that have ivory inlays on eBay. Any Schon cue that has white inlays is ivory. They buy legal ivory and the prices of their cues reflects that.

Anyway, I sold the cue on a on-line forum much like this one.

Yes it's silly, but they're just covering themselves. It's cheaper than researching each individual item, presumably.

If their presence there bothers you, I'm pretty sure Ebay has a report listing function. Ebay is huge, and I'd bet they can't spot everything on their own.

Their presence doesn't bother me at all. I was just relating to the tone of the thread ad why some items get pulled but others don't.

It's really simple. If its something they think will get them in trouble they make the decision to pull it. Next they have to identify it which means certain key words in the title or complaints from site users. I doubt they have people who actually review ads there are too many.

    Cool

It is illegal to traffic in human body parts.

It is illegal to traffic in ivory. Sad that there are poachers, and it is not even going away.... but what else to do?

And simulated ivory is just as nice.... My favorite GN brush handle is simulated ivory. Nice... Mated it with a 22mm silvertip badger knot. Matches up nice with my Conk Apathicary mug.

    from a fellow perv....

i have sold a Heljestrand with Ivory scales on eBay, the first time they cancelled my auction because of the Ivory. I listed it again and changed it in white material not bone. The bidders asked questions about the " not bone". I could explain them that it was ivory.
