Thanked: 530Really, guys?! You gotta be kiddin' me.
FILARMONICA 14 DOBLE TEMPLE STRAIGHT RAZOR .UNUSED NOS - eBay (item 280515009258 end time Jun-07-10 14:15:29 PDT)
Listed as "Unused. NOS"
My favorite part is in the listing, it says: "THE STRAIGHT RAZOR IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE PICS. IT HAS BEEN ONLY CLEANED WITH SOAP. IT HAS NO SIGNS OF RUST, OR CHIPS OR CRACKS. AND IT HAS NOT BEEN RESTORED"
I mean... Come on. It doesn't have rust, but look at ALL that black pitting and devil's spit... Really, eBay? Really?!
Anyone found something like this before? Something so outrageously dead, listed as perfect condition, or a similar oddity?
Hell, there's a Dubl Duck Wonderedge at my local antique mall listed for 176$.. Frown about 5/16 of the way into the 11/16 blade.

+1. Theres Lord knows how much junk on there listed as "great condition!!!!!1!!" or "NOS" when its actually a rusted toothpick, honed to death and has, apparently, been stored in a mix of acetone and salt water.
Thats why we keep harping on at new guys to stay away from eBay lol..!

Thanked: 2591I decided to ask the seller of his opinion on the NOS statement:
Me:
Hi,
I was looking at the pics of that NOS Filarmonica, and the description provided. I could not help but notice the enormous amount of pitting on the steel, can you tell me if it was common practice back in the day to produce blades of such appearance?
Thanks
thanks for your question, but I am no expert in the topic, and I could not answer the question with authority. perhaps, you can get the answer in some of the straight razors blogs.Stefan

it could be NOS - I don't see any hone wear
And although I see lots of rust, I don't actually see any 'signs' of rust. Maybe the seller is sliding through a semantic loophole?
(bid early and bid often folks! hahahaha, suckers)Find me on SRP's official chat in ##srp on Freenode. Link is at top of SRP's homepage

Well, according to thebigspendur "NOS = never been sold retail"
So, unless one of you can produce a sales receipt for that razor it's the seller's word against yours.
