    Default Industrial Solingen

    Ol Straight Razor,Industrial Solingen,Germany,Durham,NC - eBay (item 190403115224 end time Jun-13-10 14:53:23 PDT)

    I couldn't find squat on this company. The metal on the tang looks Damascus. What do you guys think?

    Nope, sorry, just looks like faux-damascus etching on the tang.

    Industrial supply company looks like the N.C. importer, and I see no info about the actual maker other than Solingen-Germany. None of this means that it won't be a great shaver, but personally, I wouldn't pay that much for that razor.

    There were numerous anonymous razor manufacturers in Germany who made razors on order for hardware stores, barber supply companies, department stores, cutlery stores, etc. There is practically no way of knowing who the razor makers were or the relative quality of their goods. However, if the razor was made in Solingen, chances are it is of better quality than one that just states "made in Germany". Razors made in the Solingen district had to meet certain requirements before they could be stamped with that city's name. A "made in Germany" razor wasn't required to meet any standards and could only be judged by their performance after they had reached the marketplace.
