Thanked: 68*Neverust* ?Eugene Hoppe - Solingen
Hi All
Just found this on our New Zealand version of eBay.
Neverust Cutthroat razor - SHAVE READY for sale - TradeMe.co.nz - New Zealand
Does anyone know anything about how good these are?
Have done a site search for Neverust and found very little.
Thanks
You are bidding on one very nice razor here.
It is a 6/8 (3-pin) Neverust Razor. These were made by Eugene Hoppe in Solingen, Germany somewhere around 1922.
Scales (handle) are faux tortoise shell with white wedge.
There is absolutely no rust on this razor and
I have only done minor polishing to the blade and cleaning of the scales.
The steel in this blade is much harder than most blades I've honed so it took a little longer to get a good shave-ready blade but it is ready to go. I have even shave tested it.
It was honed using 1000, 5000, 8000 12000 grit Naniwa whetstones then stroped on a Strsaight Razor Designs Premium III strop (60 passes) and then on to a Scotch Tanned Horse Hide strop for another 60 passes.
The winner of this auction will also get a free touch up hone session free of charge when the blade begins to dull. Postage to Auckland will be at owners cost.Don't do anything you wouldn't want to explain to the paramedics!

I don't think they were using stainless in 1922 so I don't know about the neverrust but it looks like a good blade.

I found somewhere references about stainless used for razors in 1905 or 1910, was in relation to Sheffield maker too, perhaps Rodgers, so it's possible. I used to have a stainless Butler, so if uniclectica is right that'll be before 1926. It looks rather shiny for razor that old so it may be stainless. Of course, stainless is just a class of alloys so it doesn't need to be 440C.
Anyways, looks like the seller hones and shaves with straight razors, so it seems like a good buy.
