Thanked: 1371Judging by the box with it, it's NOS. Whatever it is, it's a beauty.

I've seen 8/8 DD's before (in pictures), but never one with a wash/etch on the blade.

Yes these come up every now and then but are quite rare. As we all know the makers of some of the DDs are unknown and to complicate things further some makers made DD models with their names on them which were kind of like when you go to Sears to buy a refrigerator and though it's say an Amana it's a little different than all the other stores because they make that one for Sears. The Puma Ducks are an example of that and there are a couple others. However in this case a generic razor maker made a limited run of Goldedges for DD and that's why you have what you see. I don't think those insignia's are from any one company like Dovo for instance but when you see generic razors that just sell on Eboy and are Solingen straights they have that design.

Thanked: 2591it sold for a hefty price.
I wonder if it can compare to #14 Filarmonica DT in terms of shaveability, which goes for a bit less I think?Stefan

The generic "Solingen" etching resembles many other brands that have the blade just like that, Dorko, Bartmann, Dovo, etc. Sometimes they even come up with generic "Solingen" scales. The only thing that identifies them is the shank. But this is not the case, although the blade looks like many other blades from other brands, the scales and the case are unique.
I wonder what age it is...

It's a Pearlduck so it's post WWll probably 1950s or possibly 60s. My guess is it was some of the last DDs ever made. They needed some stock and had a generic maker do the run for them.
