Actually, I'm not. That remark was a joke. I'm liking the Filarmonicas(and Palmeras) a lot, but even I have decided that that Novodur is way to high now.

And yes, I agree, they show similarities. the question is, who did produce them? The same German guy, claimed by a few? Did Pou produce the Palmeras for Vollmer? or vice versa? I have no idea. And I cannot even say that they are ground from the same blanks, even though there are similarities.

    Spot on, I'd say!
This discussion is interesting on many levels.
Why do they get these horribly high prices, compared to other excellent shavers of other producers?

collectability?, reputation?, hype?, shave quality?, beauty? Idiocy?

To me, it's quite easy. I get edges on, and shaves off of these razors that I have yet to discover in other brands. Admittedly, I am a newb at this, having honed only a 150 or so razors, and shaved with straights for only 7-8 months.

It's the "I've got to have it" factor. That price does not reflect its actual value. I wonder what the price was back when the company was mass producing them? Then again, Filarmonica is a production razor (correct me if I'm wrong). It's not made by an independent craftsman (e.g. Livi, Wacker). I'm pretty sure once Mr. Livi & Herr Wacker are long gone their razors will skyrocket in price. To each his own opinion. In the end it's personal preference.

It's a simple bidding war, the only thing we know right now is that there are two people willing to pay more than $300. I'd say that's statistically insignificant. There are thousands of suckers that are paying $10-$20 for zee-pk type razors, or for unfixable junk, I think that's much worse.

That's a good point. I'd much rather pay for a $1000 razor that's got an excellent chance of being a true gem than 100 x $10 POS razors with no shot of being any better than a box cutter.
