Thanked: 480The Mall vs The Bay
I'm curious as to what you guys think about the classifieds here on SRP vs marketing through the auction sites.
What are your thoughts or experiences?
Did you find that fancier or higher priced razors sell better in one location or the other?
Did you find the opposite to be true for more basic or "not so pretty" blades?
Did making a blade "shave ready" play into the making of a sale?
or a purchase for that matter?
Lets hear those voices of experience.

High end blades may do well if that particular brand or maker has a following. I think a shave ready razor, if it truly is shave ready, is always worth more than one that is not. If you sell in the classifieds you only pay fees if you use paypal. OTOH you are selling at a price that you fix.
If you sell on ebay there are listing and final value fees along with the paypal fees. You have no other payment option. On the plus side you will have a much wider audience to see your wares on ebay than on SRP and the price may end up being more than you would have asked if you had sold it on SRP. So the answer is , it depends.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

The main difference I see is that in the classifieds you ask for and get an amount that makes you happy, or else you keep your stuff. On auction sites, you get what someone is willing to pay - sometimes more, sometimes less.

Thanked: 9I agree witht the above, sell in the classifieds for the price you want for a item, on the bay, that price may not be achieved, or sometimes bettered, a gamble.

Thanked: 74I found that selling here requires that you are more aware of your razor in all of its aspects. When you sell through the classifieds, you are selling to a group of people who know what they are talking about. When you list a razor as shave ready, they expect it to be shave ready when they get it.
I don't expect a razor listed on ebay to be shave ready (unless I know the seller is from SRP).
I feel a little bad about some of the blades I sold when I had initially started honing. What I thought was shave ready at the time was not what I would consider shave ready now. I take this space to formally appologize to all of those people who have had a poor shave due to my unskilled hands.
