    Whoever took it over $100

The value in the word "Escher" is in the label, and being able to prove it is an Escher brand stone...

All Escher's are Thuringens, but not all Thuringens are Eschers...

Without the label it is just a Thuringen... and it might very well be a great one

Note that the seller says Escher "type". So it is not an Escher but a Thuringan. It is from the same general region as an Escher. Check out item # 350407835269 or one with an unusual label, 250714975404. I don't know either seller but I'm watching them just to keep my ear to the ground so to speak. You'll see stones that may very well be vintage Eschers but without the label you cannot be sure. May be an excellent stone though.

Edit Glen beat me to the keyboard on that one.

hmmm, so anything over 100$ is to much for that unspecified stone?

Dunno, not saying that, it might be a very good hone. You don't know until you get it and try it. What it is worth is in the eye of the beholder.

I know the ebay vendor issue is under discussion among the mods, so delete this post if needed.

That vendor sells a lot of hones. Most of them look great and genuine but some of them have been questionable and a few have been misrepresented. At least for this one he clearly calls it Escher type.

Just to echo everything that has already been said by several experienced members before me; the bottom line is you can not be sure and without a label, it can only ever be called a Thuringian, though it may conform to the same measurements as genuine Eschers. I'd be alot more sure if it were unlabelled but came in an Escher's box, just on the balance of probabilities.

From what I understand, some Thuringians are identical to Eschers in both looks and properties. It's not surprising, they come from a very close region. However, some are not as good. But no Eschers fall as low as the lesser quality Thuringians. I have read about some relatively coarse Thuringians. Well, less fine. Coarse implies sharpening, not polishing.

This seller always has a ton of Eschers up on Ebay, I don't know where they come from but they do.

Matter of fact, I got my Dark blue Escher from this seller.
