Thanked: 3795I think I find it quite odd that the listing appears to be showing three different hones in the photos. You might want to ask which one is for sale.

It looks like there was a "label" on the bottom of the box at one time.. and the top of the box looks like it has been glued on. I don't own any eschers but one of those sets of hones looks like a Chinese hone to me.

I'm pretty sure the two photos that look like a smaller stone are edge shots of the hone. He says it's chipped on the edges, so that must be showing the chips.

It is clearly only one hone. The first section is made up of standard digicam pictures, the second section (including end shots) is made up of scans, it looks like. However, if you look at the scratches and chips on the scans of the top and bottom, they match the scratches and chips in the camera pics.
The label on the box does appear to be glued on, but glue is not a new invention so that means nothing. There is clearly a matching spot for the torn off corner. I think the label is original.
But as for whether the stone is an escher or not...why would you question it? What makes you believe it isn't? It's obviously a dark grey slate, as the Escher stones were. The dimensions match the box, and they're fairly standard barber hone dimensions. The label is clearly authentic, and it would certainly not fit onto the usual long, narrow size of the Eschers.
In order for it NOT to be an escher, someone would have to cut a piece of dark grey slate to match the dimensions of an escher box, then grind shape and polish it. For a non-professional without the equipment, that's a CRAPLOAD of work, and this person is clearly presenting themselves as someone who knows nothing about hones.
So, I think in the absence of compelling evidence that it's a fake, it's likely real.
