    Default Black Dubl Duck

Has any one seen the black dubl duck before? Is it a good shaver? Or just collectible?

Grim reapers are rare specimens of dubl quacks. This one will fetch a pretty penny. I wonder whether the toe end has suffered more honewear than the heel end.

That razor is not the "Grim Reaper" razor - the one called the "Grim Reaper" is a Lifetime blade, and comes in yellow scales. At least that seems to me the one that brings the big bucks.

As for how this one will shave... You'd have to ask someone who actually has one. While the DublDucks that are very popular are great shavers, not all of the old ones are as good (note - I don't know if this one is an old one or a newer one).

I thought the grim reaper was just the little guy on the end of the scales - There are dubl duck razors branded Vesuvius and Lifetime which use the man of death

There's something odd about the values placed on various dubl ducks - at least to me, a non-collecting hack. The vesuvius seems more difficult to obtain than the lifetime, judging from how many folks post pictures of them here, and how many show up on ebay, yet the lifetime commands a premium. Maybe people are after the lifetime warranty?

Here's an interesting bit from a duck fan I ran across a minute ago while browsing for other vesuvius pictures here on srp:

Many of the older Bresnick models are unknown and though rare go for a song. Many of these razors never even mention DD so they go under the radar. Its the same reason a Rolex watch can fetch the price it does. People are willing to pay for it and the manufacturer exploits the brand name to the max.

The Vesuvious really just predates the Lifetime grim reaper. Who knows maybe they were going to sell a whole grim reaper series but it never happened.

I got to admit, the black and gold scales are sexy as hell.
