Sooo sad / the one that got away
I had been watching this auction for a couple weeks, description said it dated from 1775-1795, in near mint condition. with 4 hours to go before deadline, I had broken my piggy bank and was getting ready for some serious bidding - only to discover it was totally gone. Guess someone managed to get a buy-it-now or something. So annoying when stuff like this happens. Cry cry cry. Anyone else had similar experiences?
Here's a pic of that blasted old thing, just to let you guys in on my sadness:
Blues of the hour:
I got the low down blues, I got the low down blues,
what can I say that razor got away,
got the low down blues
Anyways, all is not pitch black luckily, I managed to score no less than 16 razors in auctions yesterday

I love the subjective nature of "near mint." The pivot washer on the front is clearly missing, and the blade is obvious regrind. Still a very cool razor, though.

I feel for you on missing an auction you really wanted. That has happened to me several times on auto parts. AND, I'm glad you won some razors because my days always improve when I get new car parts or shaving goodies. And, I don't have any money to play around with on razors right now. BUT you better knock that crap off in the next month or so! Or I'm going to have to come beat your door down!

As I recall a few years back I was bidding on a DD Satin Baby and it was a great price and in mint condition and I was about to get it and as I was putting in my last bid at the very end of the auction my computer froze.

That used to happen to me too in the windows 98 days. Freezing, popups saying."This computer has performed and illegal operation." I was waiting for the feds to come busting through the door any minute. I still don't know what the "illegal operation" might have been.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Oh my! That sounds like no fun at all. Just reading it made me cringe.
Str8dave: Thanks for posting that one, it does bear some resemblance. What appealed me to the original was the shape of the blade, the beautiful scales, the lovely washers and obviously, the age. I would have absolutely loved to shave with it.
