Thanked: 4Need a quick answer to this vintage question ASAP!
I HAVE to buy a razor before going to bed here in Illinois. I want a beat up one because I have an urge to try my hand at a couple restores, on the cheap.
I found three, help me pick one!
1) HENRYS X Geneva Cutlery
2) SHEFFIELD
3) Joseph Smith & Sons
This is all the info I have on any of these blades, other than the pics.
QUESTION: Which is the better/rarer/more valuable blade?

it depends on the condition, more than the make.
based on the names only i'd get the joseph smith, which is also from sheffield, as they tend to be on the more interesting side of blade design, but if i see them all i may pick another one.

Maybe it's just me, but the pictures didn't load. Copy and paste of the first shows a razor I wouldn't even consider, given it's photo and apparent condition.
I like Smiths. And Genevas. And pretty much everything from Sheffield (which includes Smiths).

Thanked: 4Yes that joseph smith looks like hell, but remember I'm going to throw the scales away and replace with custom, buff the blade...I considered it because theres no rust on the blade and the stamp looks good. (as good as this blurry pic shows) and the things like $12. The sheffield has small rust spots which could possibly reveal some pitting, the geneva cutlery is in much better shape than the rest.

If a blade is small to start, any width you lose by accident during restoration seems like a lot more steel than it would with a bigger razor. I HATE buffing 4/8 or less blades.

Thanked: 21Not a pro here, but I do have a few razors. Forget the Joseph Smiths. The Sheffield is going to have some pitting as already mentioned. The Geneva seems like the best bet. The handle is broken on it, but like you said it's coming off anyway. I also like the tang on the geneva better.

Thanked: 4Holli-good advice. I'll learn from your experience and not get a skinny blade-
HLS-you make a good point. Geneva would be nicest and easiest to clean up-
