Thanked: 13I was looking at that one...I don't know that I'd pay $672 unless that handle was sterling silver. Even then... Regardless, that's probably the only one of those out there. That company only made straights for 4 years, about 100 years ago in Chicago. I'm surprised they're not as popular as some other american brands

Those scale collectors go for big bucks when it is something like those beauties. The blade is totally secondary to most of them and that one happened to be in good shape. Beautiful razor, I'd have loved to have found that in some flea market for $20.00.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Even as sterling silver, those scales would not be worth that money in terms of material. As for how popular they are: I collect rare malt whisky. A category of sought after whisky are those coming from 'silent stills', meaning there is still whisky maturing in a warehouse, but the distillery is defunct. And some of those are highly sought after prizes, like the Glen Esk. But the reality is that many of the stills that went broke just sucked at making whisky, and are average at best.
A razor maker going under after 4 years could be because of bad luck, sickness, or other circumstances. It could also be due to the fact that his razors were not that great.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.
