Initials on Dubl Duck Effect on Value
To what degree would initials carved into the monkey tail of a Dubl Duck affect its value in terms of percentage? I am looking at picking up such a razor. It is in otherwise excellent condition. I am thinking a 30% discount on an otherwise unblemished one.
Would appreciate any input.Last edited by HarryA; 05-16-2011 at 04:11 PM. Reason: Add picture

Thanked: 3795I would consider it to be part of the razor's historical character and would not presume any discount.

As long as the initials aren't carved into the edge of the blade, I wouldn't think there should be much if any discount.

Guys, seriously. You would pay the same for this one as one without carved initials? Very forgiving, especially considering how many mint Dubl Duck Goldedges there are out there.

Thanked: 3795In that case, I'd suggest you buy one of those mint ones. The initials in no way detract from the aesthetics of the razor. It's not a work of art. It's a functional tool that someone cared enough about to personalize. I don't think it is a valid basis for anything close to a 30% discount.

Personally, I buy my razors to shave with, not to collect and look at.

Unless it's from Mr Duck himself I wouldn't pay it no mind.

Thanked: 3795I'm surprised. I was almost certain that there would be others who agreed with HarryA. He makes a valid argument. After all, a NOS razor is more valuable in an unopened state. However, in this case the razor clearly had been used, so I think that diminishes the extent of any possible discount.

Thanked: 13245On a Collectors Forum I bet there would be plenty, we tend to be more about the shave here, not exclusively but in general...
I love finding Mint/NIB/NOS razors out there, but honestly the first thing I do is hone them up and shave them so they are no longer truly NIB any longer anyway... I can honestly say I have NEVER bought a razor yet to look at Even the ones that sit in sealed closed glass cabinets, are shaved at least 1-2 times a year....
On another note, it would take me about 20 seconds to take those off there so that no one would ever know they were ever on thereLast edited by gssixgun; 05-16-2011 at 06:41 PM.
