Well, I've been whining and complaining forever to get a forum like this, so I guess it's appropriate I make the first post.

Recently, I've had some pretty good luck on ebay. I've gotten some nice razors that are going to clean up nicely, and some others that need a bit more TLC. I've been pretty lucky, because I generally try to buy razors with little wear, so I can clean them up and hone them for resale. I can get rust and pitting off, and have even managed to remove excessive hone wear from 6&7/8 quarter hollows. Just thought I'd recommend a couple sellers, whose products have been always good, along with their service:

The prices of razors seem to be rising exponentially...even six months ago you could get a good razor for $10...now the same one costs $40. I'm sure people here have had both good and bad experiences with razors and the people who sell them. I like a forum like this because it gives us a chance to reward the good sellers, and slam the truly crappy ones.

I've noticed the rising prices as well, so I made another couple of ill-advised purchases considering my financial situation, but I wanted to pad myself well against the lean times.
In one case the seller didn't know much about razors so she thought that a mismatched cardboard coffin had some sort of a value and wanted to ship the razor and coffin as a package. When I asked her to send it via Lettermail in a padded envelope, she went to the PO, bought an envelope and shipped the razor before even sending me an invoice. After that she gave me positive feedback upon payment. I directed her to Bill's guide anyways, so she knows how to set up the auction next time she sells a razor. I hope they take it to heart the way Tony H did. His descriptions were fairly good to begin with so it was a fairly small step for him.

I've given up on ebay. Of course, I have a dozen razors I haven't touched yet. I was waiting on Bill's new CD. Now that I have it...I guess I better get busy. I found that if I don't login to ebay, there is no temptation, so I just don't even load it.

BTW, Joe, I believe you can find a good dentist on ebay...or did you do that already?

    Joe,

What are you doing to fix up the hone wear? I assume you are speaking of wear on the spine, and that you are making it more presentable rather than restoring lost metal.

    Thanks.

I'm not restoring lost metal. I'm regrinding the blade to remove the excessive spine wear. I"ve managed to bring a couple back to almost like new. I'm limited in the size and type of blade I can do because of my equipment, but the ones I can do have turned out pretty well.

Very interesting. What kind of equipment are you using for the grinding? It sounds like a tricky operation.
