Thanked: 884Or to put it another way, "sometimes there just ain't no accounting for bad taste."
I saw an ebay ad the other for a razor that I thought worthy of a second look. Upon reading the description, the seller stated that the item had been given to the seller by their grandfather. The razor didn't interest me after looking at the pics and the price wasn't outrageous at the time either.
I had to wonder if the seller was a mercenary little prick with no appreciation of family history or if they were in a bind and trying to get some money up.
My grandfathers tossed their straights when safety razors came out and never looked back. One died in '63 the other in '83. I didn't get much from either of them but what I did get I still have. My son can do with my stuff as he wants when it's his. I suspect he'll hang on to it as he throws nothing away already. I'm afraid the end of the house his room is on will tilt the rest house uphill one of these days due to all the crap he has stashed in there. LOL

That brings up an interesting point Wullie,
I have guns that my dad has given me that I wouldn't get rid of for anything. Yet there are other items he has given me that don't have that same sentimental tie. To be honest if Dad gave his old DE razor I don't know that it would mean that much to me because that really has no emotional ties to my dad. Shaving is what he did to keep his face clean. BUT we spent a lot of time together shooting as I was growing up. The guns make me think of those times. The razor makes me remember My sister yelling "Dad will you hurry up I need to fix my hair".
