    Default Worst Rescale

I've been noticing a seller on eBay lately, I won't mention any names, but they happen to have the absolute worst rescale work that I've ever seen. In most cases, these blades would look better with nothing attached at all.

Anyone else seen these? If not, you'll know when you see the horribly placed pivot holes and the abnormally giant attempts at bullseye washers.

I have to mention this because it's really a shame when otherwise good blades are just ruined. I'm guessing if that little effort is put into the rescale, the buffing and honing techniques are nothing too special either.

I haven't been on eBay much lately, but in general I agree with the "better left alone." It seems to me like in the years I've been shaving with a straight there have been more and more fly-by-night guys taking advantage of new guys who don't know any better. It's a real shame, and I think probably a part of why so many new guys don't stick around anymore.

yep, couldn't agree more. I'm guilty of doing some quick hand sanding or light buffing with green compound to add a bit of shine to my razors but if I were going to do rescales and honing for profit, there's just no reason to take shortcuts. I'd say the guys willing to pay big money for restored razors are going to the pros anyway and not buying on eBay.

Definitely. The guys I see really getting shafted are the new ones-- frequently led, even encouraged to buy junk because its "affordable." I see nothing affordable about buying something you know will need replacing!

Ben I think you have it this nail square on the head, guys would be much better off overspending the first time than buying something twice. Quality goods and service will trump the disappointment of being "cheap". Affordable is one thing, cheap is another, but the word affordable has fallen prey to the same kind who have undermined the term "shave ready".

Idk, Nun2sharp, I'd say I break even on cheap disappointment vs. affordable quality goods. I was looking around at my antique strops today, and thinking, I probably could have gotten a really nice new one by now if it weren't for these. Then I looked over at my coticules and thought gee I wish I hadn't bought the really nice new one...Then I went to the fridge and made a ketchup sandwich and washed it all down with a nice glass of sugar milk. Now back to our regularly scheduled Ebay bashing. lol.

I don't search for razors at ebay so I have no idea how the scales of these restored razors look like. Would it be possible to post some pictures?
