From the times I did it, tt's actually fairly pricey to send money by bank transfer from the US (IIRC, and I may not, it cost me $75... though I was sending a rent deposit of several hundred GBP). The post office does have international money orders, but I don't know if they can be drawn in foreign currencies, only in US dollars - it's worth checking out, though.

You might try someplace like Citibank - they're international, and will help you send the money one way or another. Cost will be the issue.

The seller actually signed up for Paypal and sent me an invoice - after a couple of e-mails, I in English and s/he in French. This was nice. Now let's hope I won't be getting some dog...
