So sad.
I found a Double Duck. Close examination shows the first 20% of the blade is bent. How do you do this to a tempered blade without snapping it?

Nice blade, if its the spine thats bent you can hammer it out, the blade cannot be twisted, straightened by any reasonable means. It will snap.
If its closing ok in the scales I would leave it alone.
Just my opinion....

Be a hassle to hone and if it was heat the temper may have been compromised. No colors showing to indicate heat but they may have been polished out. I'd return it for a refund if I had paid with paypal and wasn't told about the condition beforehand.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 1195If it can't be returned you may have to make a stubby if you still want a functional razor. Sorry, man.

Tempering is actually a softening process to provide a certain amount of ductility to the metal after the hardening stage.
Catching the edge on a buff can cause a bend like that if the tempering has drawn enough of the brittleness out but usually they only bend one way before breaking ie I wouldn't try to straighten that..The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Sorry if I gave anyone the impression that I bought this razor. I just found it for sale and couldn't believe the bend in the blade. The steel must be soft somehow.
