    Default Swaty?

A Swaty 3 Line that actually _says_ 3 Line on it? Is this legit?

Most have German text on them but this one is in English.

    Yes they are

    It should say Franz Swaty

Pike bought the rights to the Swaty name and produced some also, those are stamped Pike Swaty they are all very good hones

I have had a few of the actual "Three Line" Franz Swaty hones go through my hands and I was pretty impressed with them

Keep in mind the original finish is sought after so don't be lapping it if is doesn't need it

maybe this should be a new thread glen but how would you know/decide it's the original finish and therefore conclude NOT to lap it?

IIRC American Hone Co made one marked "three line" too. Anyway, I use a nylon bristle brush with some comet or something like that and get the surface grunge off. If it is sort of smooth and shiny it probably hasn't been lapped. Lapping takes that shiny finish off. I've heard you can get it back with buffing but I've never tried it.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
