I agree, Firestart, but really, his saying it's in "pretty good condition" and the stuff about kicking yourself is just the sort of sales "puffery" that you expect, either on ebay or elsewhere.

I wouldn't hold this up as the paragon of a good listing, but he admits the scales are warped, which might not be evident from the picture, and the other defects are, shall we say, self-evident.

The only thing I take a real issue with is his assertion that you can shape them back with a warm water bath, which, as you say (and as I understand it, though I've never done it) might or might not work, depending on how badly warped the scales are and for what reason. If you restore razors and salvage old scales, though, you will know that and bid accordingly. If you've never done it before, and you don't know, and you don't own Bill's CD or have him on speed dial, then you're buying a pig in a poke.

Keith, I'll never accept even a grain of dishonesty in a sales pitch even if people grew to accept it as a matter of fact. The way this listing was presented it was an insult to intelligence.

I suppose I fail to see where it is actually dishonest. I he were /lying/ about the condition of the razor, I would agree with you. But I think it's unrealistic to expect a seller to do anything other than put their product, whatever it is, in the best light. You honestly expect him to list the razor, "Destroyed razor with warped scales. Probably good for nothing but the rubbish bin. You might, or again might not, be able to restore it."

I'm not defending the listing per se. I just think it's unfair to call it dishonest. It gives all the facts, mixed in there with the sales nonsense. It seems to me that anyone with intelligence sufficient to be insulted would read the listing and say, "What crap." and then click to the next listing.

Actually Keith, that's exactly how I'd list it b/c typical sales nonsense is dishonest. Yes we got used to it, but I don't like the fact that we're used to being lied to.
