This ain't an Escher
Appearances are deceptive. Picture inside box cover looks like that of an Escher. But the name Escher is nowhere to be found. The stone inside looks most like a coticule.
The outside of the box cover has the give away: Excelsior, Fienster Kuenstlicher Abziehstein, i.e. Excelsior, finest synthetic hone.
Take a good look:

I did see that and marveled that people are bidding that much on a coticule in a box with a label. A week or two ago an 'escher' sold for big $ and the label didn't have the signature. It had the barber shop picture but not the signature. Some of the labels warn not to buy the stone if it doesn't have that signature. Whether it is still an escher without the sig is unknown to me. I'm not referring to "Celebrated" hones with the blue label and "E&Co". Those are known to be Eschers, but the stones with the labels that look like the barber shop scene but don't have the sig. Note the text on the left side of the label of the pictured escher.

Thanked: 247Well I wasn't bidding, but....It did have me fooled. I thought it was a coticule. So according to the box it's a ceramic barber hone. Yikes! I hope those bidding want it just as a rarity then. Did anybody see the American Hone water hone that ended yesterday? I was supremely curious about that stone as well. Not 165 dollars curious...but still very curious.

I asked the seller a few days ago what made him think that hone was an Escher since no where was the word "Escher" evident and I haven't received a reply.
Seems kinda straight forward to me.

Pretty cool find, very deceptive ad. Id gladly pay that for a coticule in a cool original box like that though!
