Default Visual and visceral ad for a strop and "blood" bowl on ebay

Sometimes the description and/or picture in the ad really surprise me. Look at this:

barber pieces: anique strop, blood bowl, brush | eBay

Well, somtimes I nick the edge of my nostril and it seems I should probably have a bowl for all the blood that ensues. But I think I'll pass on this auction.

Back in early times the barber was sometimes the dentist and the doctor. A common practice was to "bleed" people. They thought by cutting an artery and letting out some blood that they were purging the body of impurities iirc.

If you ever watch the Peter O'Toole movie The Man from LaMancha, this is the type of bowl he wore as a helmet.

Maybe that ad would attract a buyer faster if the seller threw in a few leeches
