    Default Joseph Rogers

I put a bid on this for no real reason - looks like a wedge (or partial wedge) with a nice notch and possibly a larger blade.

The scales are cracked but appear serviceable and the blade seems to be in decent shape, so I think its a good project razor for the price (especially if the blade is bigger than 5/8). I may send it out for a restoration if its worth it.

What can you guys tell me about this razor - and do you think I didn't pay too much?

Here's a link to the auction:

Hopefully the seller is joking about the chrome plating...

My thoughts exactly. I was planning to bid on this, thinking the seller was mistaking polish for chrome, but decided not to out of concern that he might have been right after all.
The price is certainly good, as is the shipping cost.

I'd be surprized if it was plated - but I know its a gamble.

I'm certainly not an expert and if it turns out to be a POS, its a pretty cheap way to learn to be more careful - I just wanted a wedge and this looks like one that might be bigger than 5/8.

From the handle and stamping on the tang my guess is that its not plated, but only time will tell.

I'd venture you got yourself a very nice razor. I don't like the crack but anyway I don't think you got a POS at all

    Cheers

Yeah, me either, but at $15, its worth rescaling/refinishing if the blade's in good shape.

I also suspect that I can fill/repair the crack with epoxy or CA if I decide its not worth rescaling.

My guess is that you have a very nice 7/8 wedge for a great price, and that it'll be well worth restoring with new scales.

Well, at least now I know who I've lost a couple auctions to recently. If you ever decide to get rid of it, let me know. You'll make a profit.

I've now got enough razors to keep me busy for a while - I never expected to win the JR and I'd like to try a large wedge.

If I don't like it for some reason, I'll give you dibs.

Got the razor in - the bone handles are a complete write off, but the blade is a meaty 6/8 full (or almost full) wedge.

I'm happy to say its not plated and the only flaw on the blade is some corrosion near the spine, which shouldn't affect shaving performance.

The blade came almost shaving sharp and I'm already arranging to have the blade cleaned up and new scales.

I'll send before and after pics later.
