Thread: Any ideas what kind of hone this is?

I saw this at a local shop and didn't see any markings other than the seller's tag of "Sharpen Stone $xx.xx".

Anyone know if it's worth a pick up or if it's just a coarse Arky?

Looks like a dirty Norton India oilstone. Who knows?

no idea but
when i get unknow stones.
i like to clean the dirt and grease off.
if there is any so i can know what liquid it ment to use.
i use the super clean degreaser car parts stores sell
and gloves. and a brush to rub the dirt away.
sometimes i like sweet and find out it uses water.

See here are two lovely finishing stones.
That use water. I baged both of them for less then
30 bucks cause they where so dirty.
the one on the left i thinking about destroying that
wood box. so i would not be just cleaning the top.
I try to only buy stuff that nice and heavy.
no why of nothing with out cleaning it and making the top flat.

I was thinking maybe an oil stone. I just like the old boxes and the craftsmanship that went in to items like that. I didn't pick it up because I don't know enough about stones (unless there is a label I can read).
I struck out at the antique store on the razor end. Did find a nice Collins camp knife/small machete for $10 I may pick up if it's still there next week when I make of back.

A lot of these stones were stuck in the boxes using pitch. All you usually need to do is stick it in the oven and warm it up.
