    Default Ti

Looking for TI razors on ebay for the last couple of weeks but not found a single one... Strange as all brands seem to pop up regularly...
Any hints why this is would be very welcome.
    Thanks,
    Michel

I guess people who buy them tend to keep them. They're also still producing razors, so they're not really viewed as "vintage." DOVOs are also RELATIVELY scarce on auction sites.

Yes Firestart, that could be a reason... but... suppose 500 people buy a new Dovo or TI, just to try shaving with it... I guess there will be only 5 left after a year (or am I pessimistic now?). Where goes the other 495 razors to?
What I mean is: Just because they are still made today, and people try things out (and buy a new one), don't find it attractive anymore after a couple of ..., and then they sell it! Happens to a lot of stuff/gadgets (and for a lot of people straight razors are gadgets right?).

    Just wondering...

    thanks for your reply!

Perhaps they trash them out of frustration?

Who can honestly say why TI's haven't been
turning up. Keep looking, good things come to
    those who wait.

Don't limit yourself to the American Ebay website. I found 3 of them on the French Ebay site. You'll have to do a currency convertor to see the actual cost, but if you go to Ebay and put in auction number 280054167855 , you'll see one of the nicest worked back TI's I've ever seen!
    Good Luck,

I can think of a couple reasons why we don't see Dovo and TI come up that much. Dovo is a relative newcomer to straights, probably 1950s or so so their production historically was never that great and TI also was always a low producer of razors. They are owned by that french knife maker now but have they been producing razors continuously or did they stop at one point and were resurrected from the dead?

Either way compared to the tens of millions of razors produced during the golden years of straight shaving both companies produced very little. At this point they are so to speak the last men standing and most people who buy new straights these days are people who use them. Its the collectors who are more likely to buy and sell and unless they produce some special collectors high dollar razor most collectors are unlikely to buy them.

They DO show up every now and then. I've bought 2-3 from eBay in the past few years. But, they do not show up too often.

It is sort of like the time I was looking to buy a used truck and was interested in a Toyota 4runner... I could not find those listed in the paper to save my life! OH sure Jeep's abound, but NO Toyota's. That's when my Dad yelled in from the other room, that those that buy 'em KEEP 'EM! (He was a proud owner of a 4Runner at the time....)

So, basically, I'm agreeing with Firestart.

One thing to also keep in mind is that when people are first starting out, and they are not sure if straight razor shaving is for them, they look at what is availible. They usually see Dovo or Thiers-Issard, and figure here are 2 good razors. Then they look at the prices of each and say, yep, I'll try me a good ol' German made Dovo, since you can get quality razors, with fancier looks from Dovo, than what TI offers at the same price (the low end TI's tend to have a 'plain-jane' look to them).

At least that's my spin on it....
