I had one of that brand, also with ivory scales. If it is vintage and made in Sweden it is a good shaver IME. I was also following that but decided $ before more razors. Sacrilege , I know ..... You asked about why a 3 razor set. IMHO, because it was more affordable for the average buyer than a 7 day set. Engstrom wasn't the only one who made 3 and 4 razor sets. Enjoy it, you got a good deal.

Any chance the scales of mine would be ivory too? The seller described it as bones....and I'm not sure I can tell those two apart....

I'm pretty certain those are ivory scales (I have a razor identical to what's in your set). However, having said that, I need to acknowledge that I've been wrong before and I'll be wrong again.

I've bought three ivory scale razors off eBay (all Swedish, one NOS). So long as the seller does not use the word "ivory" in the description and says that they are bone or "natural," who can tell from a photo that it's really ivory?

Enjoy your new razors. My Engstrom frameback gives me a terrific shave.

PS: you can Google "identifying ivory" to locate Web sites that will explain how to confirm that those are ivory scales. Some also explain the difference between mammoth ivory and elephant ivory.

    All three are the same.

Johan Engström was one of the oldest razor producers in Eskilstuna, Sweden (if I remember correctly) and produced, as far as I know, nothing but high quality razors. These look damn near new to me, in ivory to boot if I'm not mistaken (they have this glazed look, with some very minor natural looking graining).

I say you got some really nice blades at a good price. I especially love the frame razor, they too of course make great shavers, although they are quite heavy. One of my favourite razor designs. They have this 'wedge' feel to them, quite rigid.

P.S.: Did you phone home already?
