    Default Quality of these hones??

Not sure if this should be put here or in the auctions forum....

I was looking on EBAY for hones and this guy keeps coming up and the prices seem dirt cheap.... has anyone purchased rocks from this guy??? He says he tests all of them on razors and gives his 'expert opinion' on stone grits and types of stones.

I have bought a few stones from AJ, originally bought the smaller ones and was impress with all of them for the price so I bought some of the larger ones. Then I I bought this Llyn Melynllyn brick 7.5X 3.75 X 2in. Slurries like an eel, just touching a worn 600 DMT to it. It is a finisher, leaves a hazy, Translucent like pattern on the bevel that I can shave off. No leather.

I don't know if they are "really" what he says they are, but who cares. They deliver a great edge and are a super value at the prices he is asking. Recently he was even offering free shipping. I have recomended these and continue to do so. A great value, nice stone.

I just order one Llyn Melynllyn to see what the fuss is all about. Luckily for me I live next door to him, Scotland

I purchased the smaller set of stones that he occasionally has for sale, and I was impressed with them as well. It did take a while for them to get to me, but that isn't the seller's fault; the USPS was holding them for some unknown reason. Anyway, I haven't used them much in the last few months, but I do have several razors in my rotation that were finished on his "Welsh Thuri," and they shave very nicely. There was a big stink about these stones a few months back since one well respected member of another shaving forum found that the stones he sampled weren't as good as advertised. However, it seems that his experiences with these stones seems to have been the exception instead of the rule. I think you'll find that for the money they're great hones.

I just got mine in the post today, I played with it for a while and I have to say its good value for money, can you shave off it, Yes! I will use it as a starter hone for my Shave ready razors then work my way up to my Thuringian then Finish off on my Escher.
