eBay Score... .99 CENTS!
Wade and butcher carving set horn handles | eBay
I've noticed a few tricks with eBay and used them successfully with a few razors and just had a very nice win with this W&B carving set... My second set off eBay with the first set costing me $10 and this one a buck! The S/H is a bit steep but I think it balances out nicely!
Not a razor but if I can save enough money on sets like this I can offset my RAD quite nicely!
(Where's that 'Fist Pump' emoticon?!)

I've come pretty close with razors... I've had a couple auctions do absolutely nothing until the last 12 hours then blow up on me. $8 is my best score and the razor was nothing to brag about but she'll shave with a little work.

It is crazy how cheap those are on Ebay. I got a like new Thomas Turner set with fork, knife and steel for a song. Will be a new house gift for a friend. I gave my daughter 2 Griffon knives like new I bought cheaply there. She wanted to frame them. I made her promise to use them. 35 bucks! (see pics) Last year I presented my Brother in Law with a boxed Wostenholm set with 2 knives and 2 forks. Not razors, but still very nice!
"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

Those are beautiful! I have been really surprised at how available and cheap carving sets are as well... Makes me wonder, in this 'Push Button World' of ours, if it is somewhat a dying art.
My first experience with a straight razor was with my Dad at the local Barber Shop when I was around 6/7 or so. My Dad would get his hair cut and shaved and I'd sit there listening to all the talk I rarely/barely understood yet the guys there all around would include me with a wink or a smile as I was taking in all the sights and breathing deeply all the smells. Pretty soon it was my turn and I'd get the same treatment. I can still remember the feel of the hot lather. I'm sure he used the back of the razor or maybe a comb but it sure felt like the real deal and I mimicked my Dad's posture holding real still and letting the Barber turn my head this way and that until I was done. At the end he'd ask menif I wanted Aftershave... Of course I did! Man, I felt 9 feet tall sitting up there on that booster board being with all the other 'Men'.
I felt the same way with Carving for the Holidays... Watching My Grandpa or my Dad or one of my Uncles being handed the fork and knife andngetting the 'honor' of carving that turkey, ham or roast. I watched with absolute rapt attention the blade against the steel then the position of the fork... The first cut, steam escaping, juice running and a few seconds later the incredible smell! When it was my first time my hands wereshaking even though I'd done the same thing working at a restaurant for years before... It was different... I felt the weight of honor and tradition initially weighing heavy and then like a calm weight of a man's hands on my shoulders steadying me, patting my back in reassurance... A man's hands, calloused yet somehow soft, strong yet gentlly firm... Hands that smelled like aftershave.

That is a cool revelation, Prahston, Thanks for sharing. The nostalgia is what it is all about for me as well!
Job well done! If you did not see it, look at post #17 here! http://straightrazorpalace.com/custo...eve-9-8-a.html"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."

Nice scores guys. You know you're a lost cause when you start matching your steak knives & razors .
btw if it's too small to read the stamp says Cattaraugus. The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Thanks Tom! That Congreve 9/8 is incredible... The history was really interesting and the backNforth was hilarious... But, the Thread never said how she shaved... How did she shave?
@ onimaru55... Yeah, when I first started ordering razors and shaving stuff my wife said, "It's neat you have a new Hobby."... After coming home and excitedly telling her about my second score of a Carving Set made by the same company that did some of my razors it was a half-hearted high 5 and then, "I think you need a 12 Step Program."!!
Not a bad idea... Might be a good place to find more razors.
