    Default Roman Shaver

I was thinking about bidding on this old Roman Straight... but then I noticed that I can't shave with it. Does anybody know/have an idea, how to make such a thing shaving?

Just a little spit and elbow-grease will fix that one right up Actually I'm wondering how a bronze razor would hone up and shave. This would be a nice project for one of our blade-masters.

It looks pretty rusty. I am afraid you'll ruin it if you start honing it.
I guess if there is still enough non-rusty iron underneath you can hone it like a wedge.
If there isn't you hazard ruining the thing when trying to remove the rust.

I don't see why it wouldn't work just fine, be it bronze or iron. After all, it worked for the Romans. Now, I'm sure that a steel razor, having a greater hardness and holding an edge longer, gives a superior shave, but that's a separate issue.

I'm sure someone out there has tried it, there are lots of living historians and whatnot.

Yikes!! Hey, I bet that might work great on an old Roman. I mean since they're all dead, who's going to complain about pulling, nicks and cuts?

Actually, I'd love to have something like that just as a conversation piece. What a great addition to an historical barber collection! Personally, I wouldn't do a thing to it.

I would, but I'm crazy Actually if I had one, I'd use it once in a blue moon just for s**** and giggles.

I've actually seen one of those "how they did it back in the days" shows and they showed how they made bronse in ancient egypt. They had foot-operated bellows, a very interesting setup.

I think it would be great if we had a database of these 'older' razors....and to perhaps have some of the present day 'custom razor' maker's re-make some of these older design's!

Most people associate straight razors with that 1950's style razor, or the notch tip blades. However, imagine if your blade design was based on the roman era

Yea but those Roman's were tough dudes. Are we tough enough to use something like that?
No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

I wouldn't do it regularly b/c the shaves wouldn't be very close and there would be more of a burn/nicking. Those Roman sissies should try and shave with a Shick Protector/Edge gel combo

Yep, you got that right. They used rocks for pillows.
